WHAT IS A NEUROPATHIC/ DIABETIC ULCER?
Neuropathic ulcers are a severe complication of diabetes that primarily
affects the feet. When blood sugar levels remain
consistently high, blood flow to the feet can become impaired. This reduced circulation can lead to nerve damage, making it difficult to detect minor cuts, scrapes, or other wounds. Over time, these unnoticed injuries can develop into deep, non-healing ulcers known as neuropathic ulcers.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO ABOUT IT?
Early treatment is important to allow quick healing of the ulcer or wound and prevent it from coming back once it is healed. Pressure relief and infection control is necessary. Aggressive treatment of diabetic ulcers can often keep the problem from getting worse and eliminate the potential for amputation. It is very important to follow the directions given to you by your doctor or nurse. These directions may include:
Monitor and record your blood sugar daily. Take your diabetes pills or insulin at the appropriate time(s) each day. Be active at least 30 minutes every day. Your doctor or nurse will tell you which exercises are right for you. Eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water.
